Located in the very heart of the Leicestershire village of Quorn, our quirky two-storey shop has been a florist for a number of years. Early in 2021, the previous owner relocated to Devon and a new owner acquired the business. During and since the several weeks of refurbishment, all carried out by local tradesman friends, we have frequently been asked about the story behind our lovely building.

Now we are no historians, but we do know that The White Horse pub opposite us has been hosting locals since the 1700s and that The Monk, the fantastic, thatched restaurant and bar next door was for many years a butcher’s shop belonging to the Thurland family. And on the other side, the splendid property we were once an outbuilding for was previously the main Quorn Post Office, run by the North family through the late 1800s, up until the early 1920s. North & Sons was also a grocery store, and sold pianos!

Thomas North was also a Tea Dealer and made tallow candles behind the Post Office, where we are today, so there is something ‘full circle’ about the fact that more than a century later, our own Botanicals & Wellbeing collection includes both herbal teas and scented candles. This sense of history and community is extremely important to The Green Room team because as Quorn’s florist, we are privileged to continue this tradition of local, independent artisan craftsmanship.
